These are excellent fictional history books to get any elementary or middle school boy or girl interested in American History. I enjoy reading them aloud to my pre-k through 4th grade sons. These books are wonderful if read in order, but they can be enjoyed out of order or by just reading a single book if one in particular fits a topic you're interested in. They paint a good picture of what life may have been like during different significant events in the history of our nation. This book in particular is dealing with WWI, which was then referred to as "The Great War."

For the sake of time, I will be reviewing this audio Bible without giving much detail on this particular New Living Translation. If you are interested in comparing translations or wonder why I would bring that up from the start, check my review of the NLT Illustrated Study Bible. To the point: I could recommend this as a supplement, but read text along with it, cross-reference, rely on a more solid translation to get your doctrine.
Intro aside, I appreciate that these are CDs and not MP3s. We still primarily listen to music from a CD player or radio at our home. While I can play CDs on my computer, I cannot play MP3s in our CD player so CDs are more useful and versatile for us. You may have noticed this is called a "dramatic audio experience." Fancy terms, but it makes a big difference in listening. There are some audio Bibles that are narrated by a single voice the entire Bible through. The BREATHE Bible is not, hence all the pics of the beautiful people on the front. Multiple voice actors worked together in making this so it is a bit like listening to a movie. One serious error I believe they've made is to rely on the fact that the listener will recognize and correctly identify the party speaking by the sound of their voice alone. In some instances, they do not tell us who is speaking and we could be left guessing incorrectly. For example, Christ's transfiguration is being described in Matthew 17:1-5. If you were reading a printed Bible, you would have no doubt that in verse 4, Peter is speaking to Jesus. Here are the verses as found in the KJV:
We recently discovered these Midwestern comfort food recipes that have been huge hits! My apologies for the lack of decent pictures, our beloved camera has died so we currently only have a tablet to take photos with. So, don't let the lack-luster photos deter you from checking out these recipes. Above is a sweet potato casserole with nut crumble that I found on Oh She Glows. We made it for Easter and it was wonderful! I had pondered whether it would be too sweet since we usually eat our sweet potatoes with butter (or Earth Balance for the dairy-free ones here), but it was just enough to be a treat without tasting like it belonged on a dessert table. In other words, you don't have to feel guilty if your son takes (or you) takes thirds or even fourths! Below is a recipe a great friend brought to my attention. Not only is it versatile, but it cooks in one pan and uses affordable on-hand ingredients. The recipe for Change-Your-Life Chicken is over at The Lazy Genius Collective, which is an affirming and entertaining blog. The little I read made me crack several smiles and feel a little less shame as a human. I hope you find these savory, allergy-friendly recipes a great addition to your cooking arsenal!

Blog Hopping?I am not much of a blog reader. There's only a couple I check on occasion:
HisPoetry.blogspot.com Love this girl's writing... feels like she's a long distance friend. Well, her sister is my long-distance friend, so that probably helps. Either way, what an inspiration and encouragement- you just need to check out some of the places life has taken Leah and be strengthened and inspired by the love that oozes (yes, oooozes) from her heart for Jesus, His people and His creation! chocolatecoveredkatie.com If you like nummy recipes, or have special dietary needs (or both!) check it out. ALL of her recipes are Vegan, and many can be made gluten-free. I stumbled upon it when searching for dairy/egg free treats to make for my kiddo and have gotten hooked on several recipes. Okay, "hooked on" doesn't portray it well enough. How about "addicted to"? That's more fitting. Will definitely be going back for more! |
