To be
The very best Christian
I possibly could.
But I always knew people
Who had more patience,
Witnessed more to others,
Joined more activities,
Helped more,
Smiled more,
Praised louder.
You always meet those people
Who seem to be
Everything you can’t accomplish.
Those people that memorized
That verse you search everywhere for.
That joined that activity
Your schedule couldn’t fit.
Common sense says
You only see a tiny fraction
Of how they live,
And they only appear
To be picture perfect.
Well, that’s how you were.
Baby blue eyes,
Tall, handsome,
Charming, smart,
Funny, friendly,
Christian.
I got to know you,
I guess hoping
To find a flaw in you
So I’d feel more worthy of your love.
But I never did.
You were always there,
Kind, Christian, concerned.
Always there to support me,
Love me, dry my tears.
Always there to prove your perfection
Until you left.
And it hurt,
Oh yeah, it hurt.
But hey,
I found your flaw,
So at least I don’t feel unworthy anymore.
And you know what?
One day,
I’ll be
Everything you were,
And everything you weren’t.
If I’m not already.
