The final book in the series, "Coming Home" is set in the final time of WWII in Seattle. The theme of this book is a bit more somber than some of the previous titles, but none of the content was too intense for my youngest listener, who's made it through the whole series with us and is now 6. One of the main characters, Eddie, contracts polio and his family is concerned for him as he's hospitalized and loses the use of his legs. He does recover, but other concerns, such as MIA soldiers and learning of the poor conditions (generically described-not graphically) of concentration camps such as starvation. This book has some hard topics, but they are real, and written with care. I appreciated the fact that my children have gained enough knowledge about the characters to have concern for the circumstances they endure and learn of. These books have been invaluable in giving us glimpses of and appreciation for American history and we will be rereading the entire series again in the future. |

Blog Hopping?I am not much of a blog reader. There's only a couple I check on occasion:
HisPoetry.blogspot.com Love this girl's writing... feels like she's a long distance friend. Well, her sister is my long-distance friend, so that probably helps. Either way, what an inspiration and encouragement- you just need to check out some of the places life has taken Leah and be strengthened and inspired by the love that oozes (yes, oooozes) from her heart for Jesus, His people and His creation! chocolatecoveredkatie.com If you like nummy recipes, or have special dietary needs (or both!) check it out. ALL of her recipes are Vegan, and many can be made gluten-free. I stumbled upon it when searching for dairy/egg free treats to make for my kiddo and have gotten hooked on several recipes. Okay, "hooked on" doesn't portray it well enough. How about "addicted to"? That's more fitting. Will definitely be going back for more! |
