Mirrors are my enemy.
Staring me down,
Demanding my attention.
Once that is attained,
The endless battle ensues,
My every feature becoming a weapon.
Tiny imperfections magnify,
Consume my entire complexion.
Traits given to me at birth
Attack with vengeance.
Scars assault relentlessly,
Utilizing regret and insecurity.
I focus deep into the reflection
Searching to the very souls of my eyes,
Only to see disappointment,
Shame,
That I can be
So easily stripped of my confidence;
Of my inner beauty’s ability
To surface in a smile.
