I'm sitting on a beach with no waves.
The silence is numbing.
Is the depression and anxiety
Worse than the pain that is coming?
I see it approaching,
Nearer & nearer,
Mocking and mesmerizing
Like an unwelcome mirror.
Will the waves be small
And cold as ice? Freezing
And piercing, or will they come warm
And seem forebodingly pleasing?
Only to quickly overtake me,
Knocking me down,
Forcing me under till swirling,
I drown?
No, they won't drown me.
They don't offer the mercy of relief.
These waves are unrelenting
And unpredictable.
Grief.
