More like stalking
Love for so many years.
With driven passion, I sought it.
Little did I know, its absence
Was the culmination of all my fears.
At the time
I wasn’t aware
Of this, my soul’s pursuit.
Testimony to the state of my perception,
Once a piercing accusation,
I now do not refute.
Authentically reflecting,
Compassionate sorrow suppresses my once confident pride.
The unquenchable thirst of youth,
Of all mankind,
Has now been identified.
A need to feel significant;
A cry to be cherished.
The most subtle taste of hope;
Anything to dull this craving razor-
I’m too weak and broken to cope.
My tangible goal
Transformed to a mirage;
Faded to a dream.
Perhaps it never
Was at all
Nor did it ever seem?
Undeserved love:
Not born of obligation
Selfless and pure throughout
Universal, accessible, eternal
With beauty and power unseen
And a foundation unshaken by doubt.
Honor and precious blessing,
This unimaginable gift
We ache deeply to receive
Is one we cannot find-
No soul on earth has it to give;
It’s attainment we cannot achieve.
Might as well stop looking,
Tarry not in wishful thoughts.
No reason to carry on the fight.
Collapse on the ground
You are defeated
Swallowed by the night.
Have you been here,
To this place
Where my soul crumbled?
Did you die there too?
Have you seen it-
The place I stumbled?
Is it familiar to you?
Does it lie it up ahead?
Is this your location now?
Escape and recovery are impossible
Unless, of course, you know how.
I know how,
Or I wouldn’t be able
To tell this tale.
There’s only one way
And, though it’s not simple,
It works without fail.
Don’t get any misconceptions-
I didn’t get out alone
Nor did I come up with plan.
Someone shared the solution with me,
As it had been explained to them,
And it all traces back to one man.
He weeps real tears
On our behalf,
Cares more than we understand.
He’s made it his burden,
His purpose and life
To keep darkness from digesting this land.
All men are his brothers,
All women his sisters;
No child is not his own.
He sacrifices himself
Not only for them, but for us,
And with glory he’ll reign from his throne.
This man
Is our King,
Whether we’ve known it or not.
He’s the epitome of all our heroes
And the embodiment of moral purity
We once were all taught.
You may never have
Heard his name
Or looked in his eyes,
But the day any man
Rejects his Lordship
Is the day that man dies.
For the strength of his love
Is emphasized
In his fame;
Far too many
Fail to respect
The power of his name.
You see,
Goodness so true,
In it’s most raw form
Has a mightiness
Unchallenged
By the most violent storm.
Capable of dispelling
Any darkness; every force of nature
At his command,
He awaits the planned moment
Evil is crushed
At his hand.
This King of Kings,
God of all the universe,
Sovereign and just,
Is the same
Tender hearted man
In whom we must trust.
To live and breathe,
Laugh and love,
Be free of these shackles and chains,
To receive the undeserved gift
Of unconditional love
We must accept that he reigns.
I’m skeptical, at best
Do you mean to say
The love I’ve pursued
Is coupled,
Hand in hand,
With life renewed?
It seems so complicated,
But simple,
I guess.
Mighty to save,
A gift of God’s love
Could do no less.
If you hungered with my appetite,
Sobbed with my despair,
If you’re dying where I was-
Cry out
He’ll meet you there.
