I have a voice.
Think you're free?
Well, let's see . . .
Who, or what, is the driving force of your life?
Could be obvious, like alcohol- or private, like obeying your wife?
Always need to earn another dollar to pay another bill?
Thirsting for a new lover, unable to get your fill?
Pushing yourself to prove who you are?
Always on the move, no destination too far?
Is your purpose a person, a passion, or need?
Ever find yourself motivated by impulse, guilt, fear or greed?
Every one of us has started down the wrong path in some way.
That doesn't mean it's trivial what steps you take today.
We're all slaves to some master, yet we get out of bed each morning
Thinking we call all the shots. Well, here is your warning:
Being blind to your master doesn't make you free.
It makes you a slave who cannot even see.
Probably more obedient; less likely to fight back.
Being blind without a master to guide? Too great a risk of falling off track.
Unable to see your destination? Just trust the voice that makes the most sense.
Nevermind you can't see it's building an electric fence
All around you to protect you, at least that is what you hear.
Don't sweat those painful currents, they are nowhere near!
Sounds safe and logical since they're at such a distance.
Nothing to fuss about, no need to offer resistance.
Inside this perimeter you live for years,
Until it happens and confirms your fears.
Brushing against the fence shoots pain through your arm.
"This was for my good? But it caused me harm!"
You tell those in charge, but they already knew.
Put off by their demeanor, you ask to be let through.
Laughter is the response; they won't open the gate.
Sullen and bitter, you accept your fate.
If this isn't slavery, then what is its name?
Some consider life a mere cruel game.
Are you inside the fence or do you build them around others?
You aren't truly free if you're stepping on brothers.
An illusion of power comes with authority.
In the grand scheme, You're still the minority.
Someone or something, above or around,
Deflates your pride just enough to keep your feet on the ground.
I am not wasting words just to hear my own voice.
I gave you the warning. Here, also, is the choice:
You cannot choose whether slave or free.
You can decide to remain blind or to see.
Seeing implies accepting the facts straight:
There are outside forces affecting your fate.
Yes, you have some say in the direction of your life,
But, no, you cannot control it all in an effort to avoid strife.
"If there will always be a master, and I will always be a slave,
What difference does it make how I behave?"
Great question! Not really. At the end of the day
Cause and effect come into play.
Not always instant- consequences will come.
Peace and contentment seem easier for some.
If your slave master's cruel and you're facing consequences,
If you desire to turn from your ways, but are bound in by fences,
Do not fear. Have faith; don't fret.
There is hope and help available yet.
My master is strong, gentle and kind.
Believe it or not, you've been on his mind.
He's seen your suffering and cried at your choices.
He has compassion and understands you obeyed the voices.
Voices of logic, friends, emotions & reasons.
He's desired to save you for many long seasons,
But the electric fence keeping you in has kept my master out.
He could've barged through, of that, there's no doubt.
Only... he respects you and waits for your invitation.
This concept is one of which you've had no inclination.
Choosing to be blind to deny you are a slave,
You've failed to see the offer of salvation my master gave.
He is loving and patient, holy and just.
My master is good and his word you can trust.
Life with him isn't always easy, but he remains by our side.
My master teaches many things; never once has he lied.
I'm thankful to be rescued. I can see and feel more clearly.
It brings me joy to serve him. I know he loves you dearly.
You may not see him from where you stand now, but, I assure you, he is there.
Do you desire to serve a new master? It starts with a simple prayer.
Have faith in his message. He'll bless and change you
From a worn-out slave into someone new.
You will not lose your identity- you will find out who you are!
My master reveals beauty where you only saw a scar.
It takes courage. The journey has only begun.
How glorious it is to step on firm ground, walking in the light and warmth of the Son!
