He did not have to see
These sinful actions.
Did not have to hear
The cries of suffering.
Did not have to feel
The pain of this world.
A God among men,
He could’ve destroyed us all
And done it justifiably.
Could’ve punished us
For our crimes committed.
Could’ve left us
To die in our own traps,
Drown in our own blood.
A God among men,
He looked upon us
With sorrowful love in His eye.
He heard our twisted thoughts
And spoke with a kind patience that didn’t condemn.
He felt our pains
And accepted them willingly; welcomed them.
A God among men,
He called us His children,
Though we respected His life no more than a slave’s.
He preached to us the Truth,
Though we deemed Him a liar.
He shown light on our lives,
Though we spat on the flame of His heart.
A God among men,
His wisdom was greater than our ignorance.
He knew what was to come,
Yet embraced its every moment.
He had courage and love unfathomable.
He walked,
A Lamb of God,
To be slaughtered
By His Own dear sheep.
A God among men,
He did not resist
Nor hesitate.
Did not run
Or beg.
A God among men,
He calmly allowed
Long, rusted nails
To be driven
Through His wrists,
His feet,
For our sake.
A God among men,
He hung silent as tormented.
A King of Kings,
He wore a scarlet robe
Garnished with His Own crimson blood,
And a crown of thorns,
As He held a stick scepter.
A Prince of Peace,
He offered Himself as a sacrifice
In war with the Devil.
A Son of Man,
He cried out before dying.
A God among men,
He rose!
