This doesn't say "how to" schedule and organize, because I'm sharing what's working for me as a framework/template/inspiration for others to springboard off of and determine what will work best for their own families. There are so many individual booklets and instructional DVDs that come with this curriculum, I found a system that is easy-peasy for us and I hope it helps others on their homeschooling journeys! |
I purchased VideoText Algebra: A Complete Course first buying Modules A-C and then D-F secondhand. Modules A-C came in their old original plastic interior cases that were brittle and falling apart. Not very convenient.
One of the first things I did was to order a hard plastic CD case that holds 10 discs at once. I placed all of the DVDs for A-C into this case and created a label. Nothing fancy. (If you own Modules D-F, purchase another.)
Front pocket of binder: Course Notes booklet
In the 3-rings: Copy of the Student WorkText booklet pages, pages he has done his exercises work on, & behind that blank pages to show work on in the future
Back pocket of binder: Solutions Manual
On the right side of the folder, I printed copies of the all the Form A Quizes for this module so they'll be handy when needed since they're done at the start of lessons. I did not print off Quiz Form Bs because we only do those if my student was scoring below 80% on Form A. I will photocopy those on an as-needed basis.
I chose to use the Progress Checklist mentioned above to type out assignments into our online planner. I have been using homeschoolskedtrack.com for 9 years. I love our planner because if we don't get to an assignment one day, or begin it, but don't complete it, instead of marking the assignment late/tardy or incomplete, the assignment is automatically displayed for the next day. It's simple for me to designate classes to only be certain days of the week, and I am able to copy entire courses with activities/assignment descriptions between my students. This is a huge time-saver as all of my 3 children have used the same math curriculum for grades K-8 (love RightStart!). Of course, one child may go faster or slower, but having the "spine" of the assignments already typed out and able to be copied and then customized as we go really helps. You could just use the Progress Checklist if you don't use an online planner, of course.
Here is a PDF showing how I typed assignments out. The highlighted assignments on here were added in when my student needed extra practice on a lesson before moving on.
