To want to take a walk alone?
To breathe in fresh air
And exhale the day’s worries,
To feel the sun’s warmth
Intermingled with the crisp breeze
And feel alive for a moment,
Feel free
For a moment.
Is it too much
To need a moment of silence?
A moment to close my eyes,
Calm my thoughts
And say a quiet prayer?
Is it too much
To shed a solitary tear
For no apparent reason at all?
To release some pent-up pain,
Fear, or disappointment
And to show the tenderness
Of the heart within?
Is it too selfish
To ask for these things
Without questioning,
Judgment or assumption of my motives?
Is it too selfish
To hope to be myself
At least sometimes?
