One of the greatest challenges
Any human can face
May be put into two simple words:
Be open.
Be open.
Two simple words
Used so often,
Yet they confront us with
A command that creates
A struggle within.
A struggle to obey.
And to obey fully
One must understand fully.
Suddenly,
There is so much more meaning
To those two simple words.
So much more to take in.
So much more to understand.
So much more to obey.
Be open
Implies that one should
Be open to all,
Be open to everything.
Open to ideas,
To experiences,
Open to persuasion,
And to knowledge.
To freedom,
And responsibility.
Open to good,
And open to evil.
Open to evil,
A concept one could savor,
Fear,
Or refuse.
But in order to obey,
To fully obey,
One must be open,
Open to all
And everything.
I believe, personally,
That complete openness
Could never be accomplished.
Humans have the instinct
To judge,
To have structure,
And to reason.
These things prevent
Complete openness
From ever existing
In it’s fullest.
At it’s truest.
So many people have tried,
Tried to understand,
To obey.
Yet they cannot
For they are only humans.
So when they try,
They end up open only
To what they choose to let in
And their lives are just the same
As everyone else’s.
But let’s pretend,
Let’s just pretend,
That one person did accomplish this,
This unimaginable demand.
What would happen?
How would they live?
Would they not live at all?
Or perhaps they’d be insane
And unpredictable?
I believe,
After much consideration,
That their life would be chaos,
Complete chaos and turmoil,
But only until they stabilized.
And this I believe they would.
Be open to good.
Be open to evil.
With both good and evil in one’s body,
Heart,
Mind,
And soul,
They would have a strong faith in Christ
Contradicting a strong desire to follow Satan.
Pretend,
Just pretend,
This person does not die young.
Is it not true,
That their life would only be
A battle
Between the Lord God Almighty
And the Devil himself?
And is it not true
That the Lord,
In the past,
Has conquered the Devil infinite times?
