I sit and watch
The heavy raindrops
Falling one by one
Into my lake.
Just another drop
Into my lake.
Out here the world
Seems so peaceful.
It’s calming to be alone,
But time drifts by
With the cool breeze
Of a summer’s sunset
And soon,
Too soon I must part
With my place of peace.
Sometimes I feel as if
I leave my heart and soul here
Before going out into the harsh world
Where a heart carried on a sleeve
Is torn off like a crisp leaf
From an autumn tree.
I enter my life, enter reality,
And hold onto the hopeful memory
Of my place of peace
To give me the strength
To love without restraint.
When my heart is broken,
My hopes dashed,
I remember that I’ll be complete again
For when my heavy teardrop
Falls weakly and solitaire
Into my lake,
It’ll reunite with
The pieces of my heart and soul left behind
And they’ll sing like angels
In the clouds over
A still summer’s lake,
In my place of peace.
Just another drop
In my lake.
