We're moving forward learning tricky vowel sounds! For introducing the short vowel sounds, I found a really cute freebie on Educents.com that introduces the short vowel sounds with a catchy poem and picture. Since the short i sound can be hard for some students to distinguish from the short e sound, I thought starting off with a poem would be fun. Then, we sat down to create our alphabet lapbook page for the letter i. We've been using the free printables from a few different sites with the "main" page being from homeschoolshare.com's resource. If you're looking for other free homeschool printables (including units teaching vowel sounds), click on "Free Printable/download" under the Categories at the right or check out my pinterest page where I gather resources in a visual index. |
I'm sharing the lapbook page I created with you, and here is a "unit" to introduce the 4 (yes, four) vowel sounds of letter i. Although I'm introducing all 4 vowel sounds, the first two will be what we emphasize in the unit, since the second two sounds are much less common.
