The trick is to make sure you actually brown the hot dogs as well as the potatoes. Otherwise they don't get the right flavor. I'm not a huge ketchup fan, but when this is ready, I squirt a little over the top and I love it! Otherwise, salsa may work or my kids like it w/out condiments. My mom used to make this with scrambled eggs in it, and that was sooo nummy, so if you can have eggs, by all means, do!
hotdogs sliced into circles,
small pieces of potato or hash browns (leftover boiled potatoes work great),
diced onion,
kernel corn,
minced garlic (optional),
chopped green pepper (optinal)
This is very versatile and many variations could be made. I threw in just a handful of leftover cooked, cubed sweet potato once and it complimented the green pepper very well! It's a great let's-see-what's-in-the-fridge meal.
